With its longstanding expertise, the Earth Law Center (ELC) advocates for the rights of Nature globally.
Through advocacy, education and consulting, ELC champions Nature’s inherent rights to exist, thrive, and evolve. The aim of ELC is to promote the alignment of our laws with Nature laws for the good of the Earth community of life. The organization supports innovative ecocentric initiatives, such Nature On The Board.
Nature On The Board is a flagship initiative of the Nature Governance Agency (NGA), a program of ELC. NGA’s main mission is to champion giving Nature a voice in organizations, by giving Nature a seat and voice in the decision-making process.
Within ELC, the Nature Governance Agency aims to advance research and education on Nature On The Board, as well as the implementation of governance tools and mechanisms, which enable organizations to make wise decisions for Nature, with Nature, as Nature.
One example of Nature On The Board is the British beauty company “Faith In Nature”, which was the first business to bring Nature as a director on their board.
In the coming years, the NGA team will explore, among other questions, how Nature can best be represented in the governance of organizations; how organizations can be encouraged to include Nature’s perspectives more; what training people serving as nature proxies need; and how Nature governance insights can be leveraged in impactful ways.
