Let´s understand and shape belonging

"Who am I, who are you, who are we together?" KICKFAIR creates new perspectives on youth and with that a basis for self-reflection and self-efficacy.

Since 2007, KICKFAIR has been focusing its work on the question "Who am I, who are you, who are we together?". With this, they explore the relationship and perspectives on oneself, others and togetherness.

"Before KICKFAIR came to our school, I didn't have the feeling that I was welcome anywhere. Here I can be who I want to be and I can see that others accept me for who I am and that's the most important thing." - Wiktoria, Youth Leader, Osnabrück

Many children and young people do not experience places and communities that strengthen them as they grow up. But what is it that makes us feel welcome and safe? We know from research on resilience and learning that these safe environments are an important basis for self-reflection, for building competencies and for unfolding potential.

After KICKFAIR strengthened the socio-political foundation of its work during the pandemic, we are now moving one step further together: we are investigating the "Politics of Belonging", i.e. how structural belonging can be shaped and strengthened. In collaboration with the University of Wuppertal, we are working on an evidence-based analysis of the conditions and structures that promote belonging. The KICKFAIR programs will be further developed on this basis. And because we are convinced that this topic is relevant to many in the field, the process is designed to be participatory and dialogical from the outset. It involves numerous stakeholders (such as the young people, educational professionals from KICKFAIR partner schools, experts in the field outside of KICKFAIR) throughout the course of the project.
