The first 1,000 days of life

wellcome and ElternLeben.de strengthen parents to accompany their children with empathy in growing up.

For 20 years, wellcome has been a leading social enterprise for families and has become known for its practical help in the first year after birth. Today it is active at over 200 locations in Germany. For some years now, the online platform ElternLeben.de has complemented the offer; reaching more than 250,000 hits per month (Dec 2023). The logic behind ElternLeben is to impart practical knowledge online in a needs-oriented and realistic way. The goal of this is to strengthen parents' ability to reflect as well as their overall sensitivity in accompanying their children. Developmental psychology agrees that parents' sensitivity and their ability to respond to their children's needs determine the bond, trust and relationship between children in their first formative years.

In the project "The first 1,000 days" together with The Human Safety Net, digital information and consultation are combined with community work to find out what strengthens parents in which situation in a targeted and needs-oriented way. We want to learn: How does an impactful combination of on- and offline support for parents work best? How do we successfully foster that famous village a child needs to grow up healthy in our times?
