The Youth Meaningfulness Index (YMI) aims to explore how children and youth experience meaning in their lives.
Through the YMI we would like to contribute to determining the areas of life from which children and young people draw the greatest meaning for their lives - and where the frameworks and conditions created by adults today may stand in the way of meaningfulness and development.
To us it is very important to listen to children and youth directly, especially in view of the significant increase in psychological stress among children and young people.
A look at existing studies and research shows that many of them are limited to external factors such as access to education or health data, but do not yet focus on the subjective feelings of children and young people - and when a study concentrates on emotions, the focus often lies solely on the question of happiness.
With an international perspective, we are working on developing the YMI and thus putting the voices of young people at the center of interest.
